Filippo’s ambition is to transform Europe, through the power of networks, open-ended innovation and diffused entrepreneurship.
He’s active in the international policy innovation scene and researches the evolution of social complex systems experimenting with new forms of governance and financing for public goods.
He has 15 years’ experience in designing, fundraising for and leading European multi-stakeholder projects for socio-economic development through innovative approaches and stakeholders’ engagement in Europe and internationally. His projects have been funded by the European Commission, British Foreign Office, UN Fund for Democracy, private foundations and corporations.
Filippo holds several non-executive positions and advisory roles: co-founder and board member of Nethical s.r.l., Italian company leader in digital health; senior research associate of the Global Climate Forum (Berlin); senior advisor to The Research Foundation Flanders, and Fondazione Sanpatrignano (Italy) on impact investment strategy; senior advisor on the international development strategy of Scientific and Technology Park of the United Arab Emirates University; senior fellow of the European Center for Living Technologies (University Ca’ Foscari, Venice), and the think-tank Counterpoint (London); senior associate at Agirre Center for Social and Political Studies (Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain), and Goodwill Ambassador of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and World NGO Day Initiative. He’s a member of BMW Foundation’s Responsible Leaders Network, and in the international advisory board of Impronta Etica, the CSR association of Emilia Romagna.
He has a degree in Philosophy at University of Bologna, a MSc in non-profit management at the University of Urbino, a Leonardo bursary for research at Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, and enrolled in executive education courses at Harvard University (Kennedy School of Governance), INSEAD (ISEP) and Cass Business School (Centre for Charity Effectiveness).
He’s a passionate activist in social media and contributor in various news media such as The Guardian, Il Foglio, Milano Finanza, and Vita Third Sector Magazine.
Co-Founder & Director of Research
At PlusValue, Fiorenza Lipparini is a Founding Partner and Director of Research. She is leading on research activities and focusing on social entrepreneurship, socio-economic impact assessment tools and techniques, digital social innovation and funding, governance and evaluation of multi-stakeholder partnerships for the delivery of societal goods.
She has worked together with the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre to research project IESI – ICT enabled social innovation led by social enterprises for the implementation of the Social Investment Package. She is involved in EU funded projects DOLFINS (Distributed Global Financial Systems for Society) and ShakerMaker (Harnessing the power of Digital Social Platforms to shake up makers and manufacturing entrepreneurs towards a European Open Manufacturing ecosystem) and has coordinated the Citizen engagement and stakeholder campaign of EU funded project REIsearch for Atomium – European Institute of Science, Media and Democracy.
Before founding PlusValue, Fiorenza was EU Policy Senior Analyst at the Young Foundation, where together with Filippo she raised over 3 million euros in EU grants in 2015, leading on a research project on Social investment for growth and jobs in partnership with the European Policy Centre. Before joining the Young Foundation she spent 4 years in Brussels working as a policy analyst for Intesa Sanpaolo, the largest banking group in Italy, with a particular focus on EU innovative financial instruments for non-for-profit organisations, social enterprises and SMEs. Together with Filippo Addarii and Indy Johar she has authored several policy and research reports, including “From Good to growth. Luisa De Amicis
Luisa is Partner and COO at PlusValue. ·She has more than 10 years of experience in which she has led more than 40 multi-stakeholder international and cross-sectoral European projects. She leads on the organisation’s consultancy activities and has an outstanding fundraising track-record with the European Union (more than 10 Directorate Generals), UK Government (FCO, DFID, Cabinet Office), corporates and foundations.
Luisa has extensive experience in writing proposals, programme delivery and network development with a focus on social entrepreneurship, social impact, citizen engagement and cross-sectoral partnerships. She has also broad experience in designing and managing communication and marketing strategies. She has been a member of various expert groups within the European Commission for several years including the one focusing on the Instrument for Pre-Accession for the Western Balkans (previously DG Enlargement), cohesion policies (DG Regional Affairs) and social dialogue (DG Communication). In addition, she is a Board Member of Mouves, the French network of Social Entrepreneurs, a fellow at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and Chair of the European Neighbourhood Working Group at Bond, the network of UK-based NGOs working in international development. Before joining PlusValue, she worked at Euclid Network for more than six years as Director of Programmes and Deputy CEO. At Euclid Network, Luisa has been in charge of supervising communication, PR and marketing activities for the organisation, both on-line and off-line. She was also a regular speaker in the regional and national conferences organised by the Technical Assistance for Civil Society Organisations in the Western Balkans. She has led several EU and FCO- funded projects in the region aiming to build capacity for CSOs and social enterprises in the region, strengthen links between CSOs and social entreprises between the Western Balkans and the EU, as well as enabling the environment for a more civil society friendly policy through extensive campaigns about the European Financial Regulation (regulating EU grants and tenders), as well as the Practical Guidelines (PRAGs) on EU funding. Additionally, Luisa worked for a management consultancy in Milan, where she worked on developing marketing plans for the Pharma Industry. She also worked at the Council of the European Union in Brussels, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in Vienna and the Trade and Investment Department of the Consulate General of Denmark in Milan.
She holds an MSc in Economics and Management of Public Administration and International Institutions from Bocconi University, Milan (Italy), where she discussed a thesis about Foreign Direct Investment in Sub-Saharan Africa. She has successfully completed executive courses at INSEAD (Social Entrepreneurship Programme- ISEP, Fontainebleau, France) and at CASS Business School (Centre for Charity Effectiveness, London, UK).
Research & Innovation
Joshua Phillips has over 7 years’ research experience across the academic, corporate, and social sectors. His current role is Researcher at PlusValue, where he has focused on social entrepreneurship, innovation, and impact strategy, implementation, and assessment projects in the UK, Italy, and other parts of Europe. He was a researcher for the European Commission’s ‘Mapping and analysis of ICT-enabled social innovation initiatives led by social enterprises and promoting social investment through integrated approaches to the provision of social services’ (2015), led by the EC’s Joint Research Centre (JRC-IPTS).
Before joining PlusValue, Joshua worked as a researcher on social innovation, entrepreneurship, and international development projects with LEK Consulting, the Young Foundation, Project 00, Youth Business International, and Restless Development (2009; 2014-2015). He has designed and conducted innovative research in the UK, Poland, Ghana, St. Lucia, and India on microfinance, social enterprise, fairtrade, and urban development. Joshua has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Geographical Research from Cambridge University (2004-2008), and a PhD in Economic-Development Geographies from the University of London (2010-2014).
Catherine Hughes leads communications activities for PlusValue with an approach underpinned by strong skills in data science, analysis, and information systems, having graduated with a PhD in Quantum Information Theory from Imperial College London. From 2013-2015, she led the communications activities, including website development and maintenance as well as the organisation of multiple international workshops, for the multi-million pound UK EPSRC programme grant “Building Large Quantum States out of Light”. She co-wrote the winning bid for a new Quantum Systems Engineering Skills Hub to be hosted at Imperial College London, and contributed to the development of an innovative PhD programme in Quantum Engineering. Previously, she managed an institution-wide conference, and piloted a seminar series at her undergraduate university that is still ongoing 5 years later. Beyond this, she has 3 years’ experience working as project coordinator for a data-led marketing and communications campaign for a music group.
